Word of the Day (3-23-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Friday March 23rd, 2012

The word of the day comes from a word I received from a friend per a discussion we had dealing with anger. Both of us talked about having a frustration with people in certain situations and my friend was kind enough to do some leg work on what kind of anger is considered Godly and how to rectify issues of anger biblically. The website is http://www.gotquestions.org/anger.html. I pray that this can be a blessing to you.

What does the Bible say about anger?

The word of the day comes from Proverbs 10:4-5

He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a wise son; he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.

Word of the Day (9-9-11)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Friday September 9, 2011

The word of the day comes from Psalm 116 but comes a little different today. On Wednesday I got to call back home and speak with one of my closest friends in Brooklyn NY. He gave me some disturbing news. I told him that I had planned to go Labor Day weekend but at the last minute backed out because I didn’t want to deal with traffic going or coming back so I would just hang out with family here. He told me I really dodged a bullet by not coming. He said Brooklyn was a war zone last weekend, so bad that on Labor Day he didn’t even go outside for fear of safety and he ALWAYS goes where he wants. Over the holiday weekend, there were 48 shootings in 48 hrs throughout the borough of Brooklyn. It was sickening and heart wrenching to hear. It had me so sad for the lives lost or affected by the shootings. Thankfully not all 48 shootings resulted in fatalities but it had me thinking how I used to be out there. Labor Day weekend in NY was a staple for me and the last time that I can truly say I went there to hang out like that we ducked bullets for 30 minutes and I told the Lord that if he got me out of there safe the only time they would see me in the hood is to give somebody an opportunity to meet Jesus. And I haven’t looked back since. As I reflect on that Labor Day as vividly as I remember yesterday and think about all that God has kept me from, my heart is poured out with gratitude. Today I don’t want to interpret a word but allow Psalm 116 to interpret itself. I pray today that you are safe, that you are grateful that God has saved you and pulled you out of some places and that you are praying for the mindset of those who are still in places that could potentially cause harm to them and that the Lord would grant them grace enough to receive Christ. Have a blessed and safe weekend!

Word of the Day (8-8-11)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday August 8, 2011

The word of the day comes from Romans 5:8

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

My Interpretation

What I really love about this verse is that it doesn’t show anything that we did. The entire verse is about us without us having to do anything. There are certain times where my brain will begin (to no avail) to wrap around the concept of how much God loves us. Each one of us in our own way I’m sure can attest at some point in time, to feeling inadequate, undeserving, unworthy, not privileged, too guilty, too sinful, beyond help to be in the mere presence of God, let alone know that He would demonstrate the ULTIMATE ACT OF LOVE for us by giving His life for ours. It just doesn’t seem rational.

Word of the Day (7-25-11)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday July 25, 2011

The word of the day comes from Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

My Interpretation

There are many things that jump out to me as I read this scripture: 1) we will have to walk through (not stop) some uncomfortable situations in our Christian walk, 2) what we walk through that is uncomfortable for us may feel like it’s the end but its merely the image of doom and not actually doom, 3) we serve a God who is with us and stronger than our fear so there is no need to allow fear to consume us, 4) the mere presence of God can comfort us.
