“But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him.” MSG
Good Friday is a day to remember the sacrificial love that God demonstrated/showed by putting His life on the line for us. Christ (God in the flesh and Son of the Most High) died for His enemies that we might be reconciled (in right relationship) with Him, that we may love Him because he first loved us (I John 4:19). He did it that we may have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). He did it so that there is no condemnation to those who are in Him (Romans 8:1). He did it to give us the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23). Jesus did it for the remission of our sins (Matthew 26:28).
Christ’s love supersedes any human love, why, because He LAID down His life for His past, present and future enemies (I John 3:16). What person do you know that would lay down His life for his enemies? Would any of us WILLINGLY go through the torture and brutal beatings that led up to the point of death? I don’t think any of us would. However God did and we ought to thank Him for His marvelous work at Calvary ! Just think, if Jesus had not died and resurrected to be at the right had of the Father interceding on our behalf (Romans 8:34), where we would be?
