WOTD Monday May 7, 2012 - By Christen Haylett

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday May 7, 2012

The word of the day comes from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."

My interpretation

There is a time for everything!  At any given time anything can happen. Sometimes things happen in our lives that we wish would not have happened whether it be that we lost a job, lost a loved one, loss of a friendship, had a car accident, or even just an argument with someone. Of course while we are going through these things we think, “This is the worst thing ever, and I’m not sure if I will ever make it out of this”. But what we have to realize is that everything that we go through in our lives all the hardships, happy times, and the experiences that we endure make us stronger and wiser.  The argument that we had with our friend opens our eyes up to different areas about your relationship, the car accident that you got into makes you a more cautious driver, the loss of your loved one gives you a greater appreciation for their lives and the impact they had on you and hopefully will even strengthen you relationship with God.  God allows us to go through things to make us stronger in our lives physically and spiritually. He has a master plan for all of our lives and even though at times we may not like it, we must understand it is necessary.  There is a time and place for everything we cannot control it or prevent it, all we can do is endure and pray.  God can bring us through ANYTHING we just have to have faith!

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday April 30, 2012

The word of the day comes from Habakkuk 2:2,

2And the LORD answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

My interpretation

It is wise to have a goal in mind in everything that you do whether it is at home, work, in school, in your career, in your diet, in your work out plan…etc…We can accomplish all things with Christ on our side!  All we have to do it write them out make it plan before God and others that we are serious about this and ask the Lord to help us in our journey.  God wants to see that we have a serious commitment to Him and to the goals that we have set, that it why it is essential to plan our goals carefully and deliberately, not in haste.  Once you set this goal you must be committed so if you want to lose 30 pounds then you probably need to exercise more and set some rules and restrictions on your diet…so eating French fries every other day is probably not going to achieve that 30 pound goal (believe me I am talking to myself! J).  If our goal is to have a closer relationship with the Lord we need to ensure we are reading and praying more as well as set some restrictions on what we watch, listen to, and who we hang around.  So if we desire to be closer to Christ we must be serious, committed and make a change in our lives in order to accomplish that goal.  Let’s get committed to our physical and spiritual goals today and watch God work in our lives!

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!

Word of the Day April 23, 2012 - By Christen Haylett

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday April 23, 2012

The word of the day comes from Psalm 37:3-5
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.  5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:

My interpretation

Often times random things happen to us and we think “WOW how lucky am I that this happened to me.”  But in actuality Luck had nothing t o do with it, what we should think is “WOW how BLESSED am I that this happened to me!” When we begin to recognize and we see the Lord’s hand in our lives, it brings forth a deep gratitude and a growing desire to do what He wants us to do.  God enjoys blessing us and when we are obedient to His word He enjoys even more rewarding us.  First trust God and do what He calls you to do, then He will give you the desires of your heart.  If you know that God’s hand is in everything, you can leave everything in God’s hands and trust Him fully.  We have to learn to commit our complete trust to Him and let Him have his way.  Be a blessing to someone else today and share an experience with someone about how you trust in the Lord and how God has blessed you!

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!

The word of the day comes from Romans 7:7

The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”

Word of the Day (3-26-12)

Good Morning Everyone
Today is Monday March 26, 2012
The word of the day comes from Joshua 4:20-24
20 And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. 21 He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. 24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.” [1]

Word of the Day (3-23-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Friday March 23rd, 2012

The word of the day comes from a word I received from a friend per a discussion we had dealing with anger. Both of us talked about having a frustration with people in certain situations and my friend was kind enough to do some leg work on what kind of anger is considered Godly and how to rectify issues of anger biblically. The website is http://www.gotquestions.org/anger.html. I pray that this can be a blessing to you.

What does the Bible say about anger?

Just as I give daily words, I also receive them and got this word on Friday (from a gospel artists out of NYC that I am friends with named Alma Rivera ) and it came at a time when I REALLY NEEDED a new perspective. I said to myself afterward that I wanted to share it. I pray that this word will bless you today.

Word of the Day (3-9-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Friday March 9, 2012

The word of the day comes a little different today.

I honestly wasn’t going to do a WOTD today because yesterday I didn’t feel up to it in my body. I was sick from about 12pm yesterday afternoon until. I had stomach pain, my mouth was salivating and I just wanted to throw up all day. I normally try to prepare the word at night and didn’t so I was going to leave it alone but I just feel in my spirit a quick word of encouragement for someone. My Bishop Charles H. Doom Jr. has been talking about a SUDDENLY break through happening in your life. That God has not forgotten when you showed up to church when you really didn’t want to nor was feeling it. When you gave and you really didn’t have to give at all. When you went to visit, to encourage, to help someone and in your mind you were thinking I really need someone to do this for me because I’m hurting, I’m in pain, I feel like giving up, etc. It just seems like everything is going opposite of what you would want. GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN YOU. He hears your cry, He sees your tears, He is WORKING OUT YOUR SUDDENLY…

Word of the Day (3-7-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Wednesday March 7, 2012

The word of the day comes from

Ecclesiastes 2:20-23

The Message (MSG)
20-23 That's when I called it quits, gave up on anything that could be hoped for on this earth. What's the point of working your fingers to the bone if you hand over what you worked for to someone who never lifted a finger for it? Smoke, that's what it is. A bad business from start to finish. So what do you get from a life of hard labor? Pain and grief from dawn to dusk. Never a decent night's rest. Nothing but smoke.

Word of the Day (3-5-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday March 5, 2012

Today is #NewBeginningMONDAYS so as always we want to look at ways to improve on things we missed the mark on or didn't feel we accomplished completely, the week/day before. The word of the day comes a little different today. I wanted to look up communication. How we communicate with God and one another. I got this from http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-communication.html
I pray it is a blessing to you. A lot of helpful scriptures to review.

Question: "What does the Bible say about communication?"

Answer:
The two most important types of communication are between man and God and between human beings. Communication is more than just our ability to talk, but also to listen. As we communicate with God, the first part of that communication is listening. God’s primary ways of communication with us are through the His Word (Romans 10:17) and by the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). God speaks to all believers through the vehicle of the Bible, which is all we need to equip us for the Christian life (2 Timothy 3:16). In order to fully understand God’s communication with us, we must be diligent to read, study, memorize and meditate on His Word. Trying to shortcut this process by seeking extra-biblical revelations or “hearing” God’s voice is not only unscriptural, but opens us up to the deception of our own fallen nature (Jeremiah 17:9; Proverbs 3:5) or worse, the deception of demons who are always looking for inroads into our minds (1 Peter 5:8).

The function of the Holy Spirit’s communication with us is first to convict us of sin (John 16:7-11), then to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). When Jesus went away, His disciples were greatly distressed because they had lost His comforting presence. But He promised to send the Spirit to comfort, console, and guide those who belong to Christ. He also “bears witness” to our spirits that we belong to Him, and thereby assures us of salvation (John 14:16, 15:26, 16:7). The Spirit communicates with the Father on our behalf, interceding and praying for us before the throne, especially when we are weary and downhearted and unable to pray for ourselves (Romans 8:26).

Our primary mode of communication with God is prayer. We are to go to God in prayer for all our needs. When we lack something, God says that it is not from His inability to provide, but our lack of diligence to ask or asking with the wrong motives (James 4:2-3). Even Jesus prayed regularly because of the limitations He took upon Himself in human form (Luke 3:21; Mark 1:35; Matthew 26:36). No longer able to communicate with God face to face, as He did in heaven, Jesus prayed often and fervently to reestablish intimate communication with the Father. We are to follow His example and “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Secondly, we must examine how we communicate with our fellow man. It goes without saying that no “filthy communication” should escape from the lips of a Christian, whether said in jest or in earnest (Colossians 3:8). James speaks clearly on this subject in James 1:19, “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” When we speak in anger, we fail to show God’s love. Whether speaking to a family member or a stranger, our communication should always come forth in a loving manner. Otherwise, our testimony is damaged, as is the name of Jesus Christ when His people fail to guard their tongues. The best way to be sure what comes from our mouths is pure is to be aware of what is in our hearts. As Jesus reminded the Pharisees, “out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” If our hearts are filled with ungodliness, it will eventually come forth in our speech, no matter how hard we try to restrain it. Of course, our most important communication to man should be the fulfillment of Matthew 28:19-20 as we communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs to hear it.

Believers should constantly examine their communication. We should consider the tone of newer forms of communication such as email and text messaging. We should never allow the safety of a computer screen to lead us to harsh and ungodly words towards others. We should consider our body language and facial expressions towards others as well. Simply withholding words is meaningless when our body language communicates disdain, anger, or hatred toward another. When engaged in conversation, as we prepare to speak, we should ask ourselves: It is true? (Exodus 20:16) Is it kind? (Titus 3:2) Is it necessary? (Proverbs 11:22).

Joshua 10:12-14
12 On the day the LORD gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the LORD in front of all the people of Israel. He said,
“Let the sun stand still over Gibeon,
and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.”

13 So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies.
Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.14 There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the LORD answered such a prayer. Surely the LORD fought for Israel that day!

The word of the day comes from Lamentations 3:17-24

17I cannot find peace or remember happiness.18I tell myself, "I am
finished! I can't count on the LORD to do anything for me." 19Just
thinking of my troubles and my lonely wandering makes me miserable.
20That's all I ever think about, and I am depressed.21Then I remember
something that fills me with hope. 22The LORD's kindness never fails!
If he had not been merciful, we would have been destroyed. 23The LORD
can always be trusted to show mercy each morning. 24Deep in my heart I
say, "The LORD is all I need; I can depend on him!"

Today’s Lesson: Being Bruised to be a Blessing

Have you ever had an accident when you hurt yourself? At first glance, there is barely any evidence it happened, so you don’t pay it any mind. A few hours later, you discover that the accident has left a mark or maybe a big bruise. Until you noticed the scar, you never really realize how bad it hurt, how much pain it caused or how uncomfortable it made you until you had that visual. Doesn’t feel good right? If that’s not your story, maybe you can relate to walking outside, driving in a hurry, running pass or just casually watching someone who is soliciting your help by asking, requesting or better yet begging for your help. Did you do anything about it? Did you sympathize with them? Did you roll your eyes in disgust? Did you pretend they weren’t there and ignored them? Did you say to yourself “Look I don’t have anything to give anybody”? I think we all can testify to one of the above scenarios. However, can we ask ourselves this question and give a truthful answer? “Do we mind being bruised to be a blessing”?

Word of the Day (2-9-12) by Cherlita Claiborne

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Thursday February 9th, 2012

The word of the day will come from my sister in Christ and good friend, Cherlita Claiborne...

Passage of Scripture for The Word Of the Day:

2 Timothy2: 19-22 NLT

(vs 19) " But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: The Lord knows those who are his, and all who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil. (vs 20) In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions and the cheap ones are for everyday use. (vs 21) If you keep yourself pure, you will be special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. (vs22) Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Instead pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

My interpretation of the text:

This is a very interesting  passage of scriptures I had a chance to review and study during my personal time with God. I have read this passage over and over again, but it was something about this time, that made some things leap out at me differently. First off I love how Paul  through the inspiration of God hermeneutically utilized symbolism  in comparison with fine China relating to those that walk up right before God and how God save them to be used for special occasions (as you would fine dining china) for honorable use. Paul clearly reminds us that in order for this to take place that our lives must be clean, we must exemplify  and pursue righteous living, be faithful and we must love.

So now lets go back a little to the beginning of the passage. When it comes to the pursuit of spiritual growth or personal holiness, the body of believers known as the church is a key component. For one thing having genuine relationships with other believers who are pursuing personal holiness is important for faith to grow. We don’t grow best in isolation. The best growth and protection against destructive forces such as false teaching is healthy relationships with one another as the body of Christ, the church.

By being and staying closely connected to a church we have “God’s solid foundation” for taking two personal protective actions when they are needed (vv. 19b and 22a). First, Paul states in v.19b, according to the New International version “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” The word “wickedness” refers to anything (environments, temptations, attitudes, …) which run counter to the character of God. Paul says, “turn away” from such environments or circumstances which will influence you to live in contradiction to God’s character as revealed in scripture. Secondly, Paul says in v.22a, “Flee the evil desires of your youth, …”. You not only need to protect yourself on a literal front from things that will lead you away from God (v.19b) but “flee” the very desires within you which will lead to the same result better known as or corresponds to a spiritual drift from God. Both “turn away” and “flee” mean to take these actions aggressively and consistently.

Word of the Day (1-23-12)

I did this word a few months back but I continue to believe this word is a relevant word for Monday (specifically) but all days (in general) because I see so many negative responses to Monday morning on Facebook n Twitter. I pray that this really gets in your spirit today. Enjoy for new word of the day participants and re-enjoy for those who read it before.

Mindset- Reevaluating How We View a New Day

Scriptures:

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
Romans 12:2 (a) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…

Message:

Good morning to everyone. I know that Monday mornings for most people normally is the worst day of the week. You have Tuesday which is an ok day, Wednesday which is hump day (or the week is almost over day), Thursday which is one more day until Friday, Friday which excites you for the weekend, Saturday which allows you to get done the things you want to, and Sunday which you are torn between enjoying the Lord’s Day and knowing it also marks the end of the weekend/the day before you have to go back to work. Unfortunately, we lose sight of one of the most important days of the week, Monday because it signifies new beginnings…if you let it.

You see, it really depends on how you to choose to see it. Mondays for most is the realization that the weekend is over and that you have to go back to the job that you hate, with the boss you dislike and coworkers you can’t stand. Mondays is where you haven’t quite settled back into work mode, still dwelling on yesterday. Mondays can symbolically be viewed as a person who looks back on their life and realizes they haven’t accomplished everything they planned to up until this point. Every Friday you look and say this weekend I am going to do this, this and this. Then Sunday night rolls around and you think the weekend was too short, I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted. Monday can seem like a mirror that reflects all that we didn’t accomplish that we set out to. Similar to how birthdays for some reflect the time of year when we realize that the dreams and aspirations we have, we have yet to attain/achieve.

As a result, I have realized that for most people, Monday is their least favorite day. For me, it is the opposite. I actually find Mondays to be my favorite of the work week. Why, because it reminds that whatever I didn’t get to finish the prior week, whatever work was undone the prior week, whatever task/goal/duty/assignment that I didn’t get to finish last week, this marks a new week to get that goal accomplished.

I have a new opportunity to complete the same task/goal/duty/assignment that I didn’t finish prior. What I like to do Sunday night (for home) and Monday morning (for work) is write a new to do list for the week and begin to cross off things on the list as I do them. Why, because everyone loves to feel like they are accomplishing and finishing a task so writing it out and seeing it allows us tangibly see what we are finishing. Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish.

Secondly, having the mindset that Mondays is a new beginning, allows us to never feel like we are too late, too old, too far removed to accomplish the task at hand. My Bishop got really caught up in the Spirit one Sunday when he read Numbers 23:19-20 “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

It was if the word became rema unto him at the very moment he was preaching. All he could muster before the Spirit overwhelmed him was “the deal is still on.” You know what I think of when I think the deal is still on, it reminds me of two things: One in order for the thought to cross my mind that the deal is still on, it must mean that I didn’t accomplish what I was supposed to prior. I left something undone. I didn’t complete something. Because I didn’t hold up my end of the bargain, I assumed the contract was null and void. I assumed that God would move on. Yet God is saying, I haven’t moved on, I still have need of you. Change your mind set. Stop thinking that because you messed up, this is it. There is no way that you can still be used, still be effective, still get done what I need you to get done. God is asking us, when did I ever say that you only get one try to complete the task? I simply said complete the task! I knew you would mess up prior to completing which is why I left you 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Two, if the deal is still on, we no longer have to dwell on the should’ve, could’ve, would’ve in life, thus hindering what we could be doing in the here and now. We have right here and right now to accomplish the task that God has given us, so why do we remain so focused on what we didn’t accomplish? I didn’t finish school whether it be GED, high school diploma, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree and now I have kids who are going through it. So what, get out there and get that degree! I had this idea the Lord gave me to start this business but this was 5-10 years ago. By now either the idea has been done by somebody else or it’s probably outdated. No, the deal is still on. If you decide to trust God in doing it, He will make it happen.

We have to get to the place where we are willing to change our mindset towards the situation at hand. If we are willing to change our mindset, I promise you God will be willing to change your Mondays (reevaluating how we view the new day) into continual Saturdays of being able to accomplish that in which He purposed and planned in your life.

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!

Word of the Day (1-19-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Thursday January 19, 2012

The word of the day comes from

Joshua 2:17-21

New International Version (NIV)
17 Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us 18 unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. 19 If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them. 20 But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.”
21 “Agreed,” she replied. “Let it be as you say.”
So she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.

Word of the Day (1-17-12)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Tuesday January 17, 2012

The word of the day comes from

Joshua 2:12-14

New International Version (NIV)

Joshua 2:12-14

12 “Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”
14 “Our lives for your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the LORD gives us the land.”

My Interpretation

Now we have been speaking in regards to the book of Joshua and in previous words last week we discussed not being closed minded to where our blessings can come from and also that our reputation will precede us. Today I want to talk about the lasting effect being a man or woman of God can have on an entire family.
One of my good friends at my church, Southern Baptist Church Praise and Worship Center is a girl named Kisha. We both came to Southern within a few months of each other back in 03’. She is one of the most gifted singers, warmest spirits, bright mood, and gifted teachers (though she is scared to admit the last one lol) that you will meet. I have watched her trust God in good times and really bad times yet she is always sharing the love of God with others. If she never mentioned her problems to you, you wouldn’t know to the extent in which she has to trust God but the awesomeness is that you never see it. What makes her stand out more to me is that who she is on Sunday is who she is everyday. How do I know this because of the fruit that her life bares. When we first came it was only her coming, no one else from family. But little by little, that began to change. Her mother got saved and joined the church. Then her cousin got saved and joined the church. Then her other cousin got saved and joined the church. Then her other cousin got saved and joined the church. Then her cousin brought her boyfriend in and he got saved and joined the church. It has been truly remarkable to see. Not that she has done something great or deserves it but the favor of God for her stability, her steadfastness, her durability, her loyalty, her faithfulness and her walk with God has allowed God to show favor on her. She has trusted God against all circumstances and God has rewarded her for it.

Now you are probably asking what does that have to do with the scripture today? Good question? Rahab showed a level of faith in God that honestly doesn’t make sense. Remember we said last week that based on the way she spoke of God emphasizing “your God” and not “her God” that she didn’t have a relationship with Him herself. Yet she was willing to potentially endanger everything she knew because she had a feeling that if she could just help the men of God they would be able to help her. What kind of help was she looking for?

12 “Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”

The scripture says she wanted her entire family saved…save us from death. Now in the literal she meant death when the children of Israel were going to capture the land but I saw also a sense of spiritual healing. Remember she didn’t know and believe she could get a prayer heard herself so she went to the men of God. She wasn’t trusting in them but in the God that they served. That is key. She wasn’t trusting in them she was trusting in the God they served. She realized that the choices she made to help the men of God could have a lasting effect on her family. They could all be saved! One of my favorite scriptures is (Acts 2:39 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call”) because it gives hope that the promise (the free gift of salvation to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior) is made for not just me but me and my family and those who I am praying for now but haven’t yet accepted Christ but their names are in the book of Life because God knows already that one day before death they will accept Jesus. It’s encouraging.

My friend has lived a life that made her family who didn’t know God for themselves decide to give Him a chance. She risked everything every time she was tested because she had a choice to not be a witness but she allowed God to rise up in her when she didn’t have strength herself. As a result, God showed favor and began fulfilling His promise for them. “Our lives for your lives!” He traded His life for theirs. Rahab’s family would forever be changed because of the choice she made to put her trust in the hands of God. Kisha’s family has forever been changed because of the choice she made to put her trust in the hands of God.

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!
