Word of the Day (8-22-11)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Monday August 22, 2011

The word of the day comes from Philippians 2:5-11 NIV
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:  6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!  9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

My Interpretation

There is a lot that can be taken from this passage. One, Jesus knew who He was so He never felt a need to have to flex His power/muscle/show off His ability. Even when people try to get you out of character, as long as you know who you are, you don’t need to say a thing or prove who you are. Just live out your life. 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.

Two, no task can be too great for you when you know who you are. Sometimes we (as humans) can believe that certain positions or certain titles make some things beneath us but God Himself never saw a task too little for Him to do. First off, He left His heavenly home and His heavenly body to take on sin. Shouldn’t that have been beneath the Son of God? Then when He gets here, He doesn’t see Himself as a king to be served and fed but He takes on the role of a servant to serve. The God who created mankind, came to serve and suffer for mankind. He was obedient in spite of the way treated Him, talked about Him, etc because He knew His task and wouldn’t allow a few simple minded folk distract Him from that. What task has God given you that you have allowed someone else to distract you from? What task has God given you that you feel is beneath you because you have reached a certain “status” in life: cleaning, sharing time with less fortunate, teaching someone else how to attain, etc? Have you made up in your mind that your purpose is to serve others or do you still feel that the world revolves around you and that you should be the one getting served? 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

God has no preference of person. You know what He is looking for, obedience. Obedience will open for you the same doors that Jesus had available. Jesus obedience to God the Father allowed Him the ability to see more and get more from God that could be imagined. Everyday God is looking at our day to day lives with hands ready to commit to giving us everything necessary to succeed but are we giving Him anything to commit to? What do our lives reflect? How do we treat the things God has given us? How is our mindset? Are we complaining and grumbling? Are we grateful? Are we disobedient or obedient to what God has called us to and asked of us? We always say to let this mind be us which was in Christ Jesus but do we look at the remaining scriptures to see what that really entails? Jesus help US to really get the mind state that you had in order to accomplish Your will in our lives. Please help us to see the bigger picture. 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!
