Word of the Day (8-3-11)

Good Morning Everyone

Today is Wednesday August 3, 2011

The word of the day comes from Matthew 24:36-44
New International Version (NIV)
The Day and Hour Unknown
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

My Interpretation

This morning I witnessed an accident that resulted in the ding of 3 cars. It was the car to my left. I don’t know if she wasn’t paying attention, texting, etc but her car’s hood bent from the collision that caused her to hit the minivan in front of her which caused that individual to hit a car. Yesterday a woman was driving to work and a car from the opposite sideway of the highway swerved over the medium and spun in the air till it landed on her car. I doubt she ever saw it. She died instantly. She left behind a husband and 2 kids.

Yesterday I had to pray with Christen who went to work and had the unfortunate news dropped on her that a coworker that she knew and joked with unexpectedly passed on Monday. I believe he left behind a wife and 2 kids as well. Yesterday, a dirt bike ran into a tractor trailer on the corner of New York Ave and Florida Ave here in DC…

I said these things to say this. We don’t know the day or hour in which the Lord has prepped for us to pass. I have the pleasure and unfortunate discomfort of giving Holy Communion to the sick and shut in. I love being able to administer it to people who want to be in church but health circumstances have prevented them. The joy on their face they have when we arrive is priceless knowing they aren’t forgotten, someone is thinking of them. Unfortunately, during my brief tenure, 3 people that I have given Holy Communion have passed and though I know that is a real possibility, when you just saw a person a day prior, a week prior, a month prior, it still seems a little weird. Just human nature you know.

We always think we have this amount of time to get ourselves right. I want to do this first before I come to God or give my life to God fully. First Lady Doom always says the day you decide to get yourself right and you say at 12:00am after one last day I am giving my life to Christ, you die at 11:45pm and never get the chance. Look around at all the funerals we keep attending for family/friends/coworkers. They are becoming more normal yet grace keeps giving US another chance. Let’s not waste the opportunity before us. If you messed up last night, someone else who did what you did, said what you said, thought what you thought, didn’t get the chance today to repent. You have it! Take it! Be grateful for it. Take the opportunity you have today (don’t worry what happened prior that didn’t go right) to make amends with God and live your life for Him.

If I never say it enough, know I love each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart. As Pastor Toni Brooke-Brown from Detroit always says: Love somebody today who doesn’t love you; doesn’t care about you; won’t repay you, can’t repay you and doesn’t want to repay you…then you will be treating them the way God treated you…

2 Corinthians 5:9-10

New International Version (NIV)
9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Have a wonderful, blessed, productive, stress free day!
